How do we create strategy?

No two digital strategies are the same because no two organisations are identical. Our process adapts to your needs; we follow where the information takes us.

Here is a high-level overview of what we do and the questions we collaborate with you to answer.

1.
Set direction

How does your organisation create value? Where do you want to be in the future? Where might be the risks and opportunities presented by the changing digital landscape?

2.
Where is value created?

What do your customers value? Where does value get created? How are you translating customer value into business value? How can you amplify the magic moments where customer and business value align?

3.
What makes your audiences special?

Who are your customers? What role do you play in their lives? What are the meaningful differences between these groups of people? What additional needs could you meet?

4.
Create new possibilities

Looking across all your channels and touch-points, how could existing experiences add more value? What new experiences could you create to deliver increasing value? What is your competitive advantage? Can you focus your efforts by stopping activities that aren’t adding enough value?

5.
Validation and channels

Based on your possible set of experiences, which channels should you invest in? How might you validate that this investment will generate more value? What would have to be true in the future?

6.
Make tough choices

You can’t do everything. The validation phase guides your decisions. Should you invest in new staff or new content, refreshing your website or developing a new app? CRM integration or TikTok campaign? The options are endless: focus on customer value.

7.
People and technology

Having made meaningful decisions, you can empower and align your people behind the vision. What changes do you need to make? What technology is needed to support your people to deliver the desired customer experiences?

8.
Roadmap and communicate

The last step is to paint the vision and map out your key activities: what do you need to do when and why? The roadmap is critical for communicating the strategy and allowing planning to begin.

Questions?

Talk to us to find out how a great digital strategy can make real change happen.

  • No two strategy projects are the same. Some strategies are developed quickly through workshops that take place over a few weeks. Others can take a year or more depending on the size of the organisation, the amount of validation required to test and revise the new strategic options and build alignment behind the vision. Talk to us about your situation and we can help you work out what’s best.

  • The cost depends on how big the project is (how many people are needed to complete the work) and how long it takes. Some strategies are very focussed on a small number of choices so can be developed very quickly and cost-effectively. Others may require an organisation to completely rethink how it engages with its audiences - this work takes considerable time and effort.

  • In many instances, clients know when they need a review of their digital channels or to look at an entirely new strategy (for example, because they are launching a new product). Sometimes doing the same thing better, is better than trying to do something new. Talk to us and we can work through the options.

  • Strategy can be a bit like Russian Dolls, with each strategy nestled inside another: affecting ever smaller aspects of what your organisation does. For many organisations, digital strategy is just about as important as the highest-level business strategy. For others, digital strategy plays an important supporting role. We can help you work out where your digital strategy fits best within your organisation.
